Hunt pleased with progress in Canarias

Harry Hunt says he can take plenty of positives from Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés despite retiring on route to the finish of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge event.

Hunt, the 2010 IRC 2WD Cup champion, was fourth in the two-wheel-drive category when his Citroën DS3 R3T suffered a fuel feed problem heading to the final service halt.

Despite his disappointment, the British driver said he was pleased with his speed and consistency on the asphalt event.

“That was the best thing about the rally for me: not only were we quick but we were also comfortable and consistent with the pace,” said Hunt. “We didn’t put a scratch on the car and made no mistakes, which is really encouraging.”

Hunt’s team boss Iwan Evans was also pleased with his young driver’s performance.

“Harry’s never driven more consistently, proving that he’s got the regularity to match his pace,” said Evans. “We need to get to the bottom of what happened on the final stage once we get back to base, but our first impression is that it was a fuel-related problem of some sort. Now we need to put this setback behind us and look forward to our next event, where Harry will be able to continue the progress he has made here.”
