Barcelona Test: another wet morning in

The Formula One teams got another opportunity to test the wet and intermediates Pirelli tyres this morning as overnight rain meant the track was wet when the light went green.

Some drivers were caught out by the tricky conditions. Maldonado went off at Turn 5 at 9.45am, slightly damaging his Williams FW33. Fellow rookie Sergio Perez ran off track at Turn 4 at 11am. At this point, the track was gently drying.

Having taken over from Alonso, Felipe Massa lapped consistently fast this morning but spun twice – at Turn 4 at 11.35am and at Turn 7 shortly after noon.

Things are still not looking so good for McLaren. The team missed some track time this morning with mechanical problems on its new MP4-26. Lewis Hamilton managed to complete some laps before the lunch break and set the fastest time.

Narain Karthikeyan replaced Tonio Liuzzi at the wheel of the HRT today, while Daniel Ricciardo was on duty for Toro Rosso. Both of them will be replaced this afternoon, respectively by Giorgio Mondini and Sébastien Buemi.

Testing will resume at 2pm, on a dry track.
