Eric Boullier: F1 is in good health

Lotus team principal Eric Boullier believes Formula 1 is in good health, and that the unpredictability is doing nothing to harm the sport. Whereas some drivers, most notably Mark Webber, has questioned whether many different winners could alienate some fans.

For the first time in the history of the sport, the first six races have been won by six different drivers. The last time this type of unpredictability and competitiveness was seen in F1 was way back in 1983, when the first five races were won by five different drivers. With the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen yet to win in 2012, the unpredictability could well continue for the next several races, with the likes of Sauber also showing moments of competitiveness such as Malaysia with Sergio Perez.

“I think it’s in good health.” Commented Eric Boullier, when asked about the strength of Formula 1 as a sport at the moment. “It’s difficult to speak for other teams, but from our perspective we have been signing new sponsors at a pleasing rate this year, and we are still talking to other potential partners. There is a lot of interest in Formula 1, and the sport is growing in many areas.”

With Formula 1 in such good health, the sport will soon be floated on the Singapore stock exchange, however these plans have been put on hold for the time being. After the issues Facebook has had after going on the stock market, Mr. Ecclestone confirmed that the sports owners had adopted a “wait and see” attitude and that they will wait until the stock market settles back down before going ahead with the planned floatation.
