Pirelli test: Massa on top

A two-day Pirelli test kicked off today on the Yas Marina Circuit.

The teams took it easy as they tried to get some understanding of the Italian manufacturer’s tyres.

Thirteen drivers were on duty and Felipe Massa topped the list at the end of the day. His best time was a 1’40’’170 and was three tenths of a second faster than Sebastian Vettel’s best effort. Gary Paffett completed the top three for McLaren.

Kamui Kobayashi set the fourth fastest time for Sauber. In spite of some mechanical problems on his Renault R30, Robert Kubica was fifth fastest.

At Force India, Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta shared the duties. The German tested this morning but had his work cut short by a broken exhaust. The team worked hard to fix the car, so that di Resta could take over at the wheel in the afternoon.

The teams will have another full day of testing tomorrow before the winter break.
