Filippi to fill spare Super Nova seat
For Silverstone’s round
Super Nova has appointed one of their past drivers, Luca Filippi to drive for the team this weekend at their home race in Silverstone. He will fill in for Josef Kral who must take a back seat and recover, following the accident in Valencia which fractured two of his vertebrae.
The 24-year old Filippi, joined the team for the first time back in 2007 and then again in 2009, ultimately finishing third in the GP2 Teams Championship, taking the final win of the season in Portugal.
Since then the Italian talent has finished runner up in the 2009-10 GP2 Asia Series with Team Meritus and is currently sitting second in the AutoGP driver standings at the half way point of the season.
Luca Filippi: “First of all I wish Josef Kral well and hope he returns to racing soon. From my point of view, this has come as a nice surprise and is a great opportunity. We have known each other for a long time and I am sure we can take off where we left off. I am really motivated.”
Team Principal David Sears: “I spoke with Josef Kral in hospital at the weekend, where he will be for another couple of weeks. I explained the whole teams’ thoughts were with him to wish him a speedy recovery. We have decided jointly with Josef’s management to place Luca Filippi back in with our team, as he is the best choice for Marcus Ericsson’s team mate. It’s just sad that Josef will not be there racing at circuits that he knows.”
