Ogier wows fans with Polo demo

Sebastien Ogier gave motorsport fans attending the DTM race meeting at the Nurburgring in Germany yesterday a taste of things to come when he demonstrated Volkswagen’s Polo R World Rally Car.

Ogier, who one day earlier finished fourth in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup one-make race at the venue, completed a handful of laps of the circuit in the car that will form the basis of Volkswagen’s challenge for FIA World Rally Championship glory from 2013. During his demonstration laps the Frenchman wowed the spectators by performing several donuts.

The former Junior world champion is now in Trier preparing for two days of reconnaissance ahead of ADAC Rallye Deutschland getting underway with the first of 15 all-asphalt special stages on Friday morning.

He will drive a Super 2000-specification Skoda Fabia alongside co-driver Julien Ingrassia as part of Volkswagen’s preparations for next season when the German make is expected to field as many as three Polo R WRCs in the world championship.

Ogier won in Germany last season driving for the factory Citroen team. He said: “For sure I try to finish first again in my category but overall it will be difficult to estimate. It’s never been my favourite rally but I always got nice results. I won in the Junior [world championship], I finished on the podium and then I won last year in the WRC so I always get good results and hopefully we will continue with another good one [this week]. It will be important for the team to get a good result.”
