Wilks aims for fifth place in Canarias

Guy Wilks says his main focus on day two of Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés will be to recapture the fifth place he lost on Friday night’s seventh stage.

The Peugeot UK driver suffered a half spin on the Vallesco test and lost a handful of seconds in the process. Coupled with a neck problem, caused by the position of his driving seat, Wilks is now 40.7 seconds adrift of the lead, despite having gone fastest on two stages on day one.

“It’s disappointing the chance to win has gone,” said the 30-year-old. “We’re struggling a little bit with the new moulded seat we’ve got because it’s in the wrong position. It’s affecting me but I’m not one for excuses. I’m just going to try and get fifth place and not do anything stupid.”
